Today we built Mt Ruapehu in the sandpit. We also made the Whangaehu River valley, the plain below the mountain and the railway bridge at Tangiwai. We wanted to learn how the lahar destroyed the bridge in 1953 causing the Tangiwai Disaster. Kora and Ariana poured lots of water into the crater we had made on top of our mountain. It whoosed down the side of the mountain and into the river valley. The bridge collapsed and bits of our train fell into the river. After that, we watched a short video about what do do if you are on Mt Ruapehu when the lahar siren sounds. Now I know how to keep safe from a lahar if one happens when I am on a mountain. Here is my Hazard Notice with the most important information.

Coastal Moa Report
Kia Ora My name is Taylor and I go to Ohaeawai Primary School
Last term Team Moana got put into groups to do a set task it was about exctinct birds. My group was the Coastal Moa. In my group there was Shiah, Joe, Joel and me. We got given 6 question to answer before the end of term. What I really liked was learning about the Coastal Moa. What I didn't like was answering the questions.
Here is my slide

Rocket
Boom!! Boom!! Boom!! MY heart was pounding. I got ready.
As I got ready I thought to myself “do I really want to do this” I gained my confidence as I climbed aboard the giant ship.”Three..Two..One blast off” said the computer voice.I sat in silence as I heard the flames Ignite from the rocket.
AAHH!!! I said as we took off at 1000 miles an hour.
it was just seconds until I realised we were landing on the amazing Mars.Whoosh!!! The door opened and I exited the ship.Everything looked funny. As I floated around I noticed a vehicle,it had four bumpy wheels and a big camera It sort of scared me, but I finally got used to it.
I kept on exploring and I found lots of caves. One cave had green goo all over it I went inside and found three Creepy aliens.I hid behind a rock, behind me there was a door.I opened it and there was lots of crazy ships and cars I stole a buggie and escaped .As I boosted off I noticed them chasing me,one of them shot the motor then I started to slow down.I started to push random buttons missiles started shooting at them.they blew up and green goo exploded everywhere.
I got in the rocket as soon as possible and boosted back to earth. As I got off I yelled “HOME SWEET HOME’’

Science: Me and my DNA>
Science: Me and my DNA.
This term for science we are learning all about how the human body works and how special we all are. We are also trying to learn how to think and act more like a scientist. So, Miss Fletcher asked us to look at our faces in the mirror and write down notes about what we look like. The information had to be precise and clear so that when someone read it, it would help them find the person it described quickly. It was a bit like being a detective. You had to look and notice things carefully.
Miss Fletcher said that what we look like depends on our mother and father. Making a new human is a bit like making a cake. You get some ingredients from your mum and some from your dad. The ingredients are called DNA. Everybody’s cake is different to everyone else’s.
Miss Fletcher said the person with the most efficient description was Andrew J as he wrote: My hair is 1cm long all over. He is the only student in Team Moana with a haircut like that so he was able to be identified very easily. You can read my description below. The sentences highlighted in blue are the ones that Miss Fletcher said were not precise and clear enough. About forty people said they could recognise me from my description.
I have black hair which is short on the sides and curly on top.
I am tall
I have brown eyes
I have big, round brown eyes
I have big ears
I have a small, brown freckle just below the right side of my nose and a scar just below my right eyebrow.
