Maths: Geometry Safari

Maths: Geometry Safari

This term for maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D geometry.  Stevie-Ray and I were in a team. We went on a Geometry Safari around the school grounds to see how many 2D and 3D shapes we could find. Then we had to write what we had found into a table. You can see ours below.

Science: Me and my DNA>

Science: Me and my DNA.

This term for science we are learning all about how the human body works and how special we all are. We are also trying to learn how to think and act more like a scientist. So, Miss Fletcher asked us to look at our faces in the mirror and write down notes about what we look like. The information had to be precise and clear so that when someone read it, it would help them find the person it described quickly. It was a bit like being a detective. You had to look and notice things carefully.

Miss Fletcher said that what we look like depends on our mother and father. Making a new human is a bit like making a cake.  You get some ingredients from your mum and some from your dad. The ingredients are called DNA. Everybody’s cake is different to everyone else’s.

Miss Fletcher said the person with the most efficient description was Andrew J as he wrote: My hair is 1cm long all over. He is the only student in Team Moana with a haircut like that so he was able to be identified very easily. You can read my description below. The sentences highlighted in blue are the ones that Miss Fletcher said were not precise and clear enough. About forty people said they could recognise me from my description.

have black hair which is short on the sides and curly on top.

I am tall

I have brown eyes

I have big, round brown eyes

I have big ears

I have a small, brown freckle just below the right side of my nose and a scar just below my right eyebrow.

These past terms we have been learning how to paint terracotta pots.We had to paint it so that it had something to do with matatriki.

How we made it: First we got handed a terracotta pot.
Second we painted it with matariki features.
Then we outlined the painting with vivid.
next our teacher sprayed them with clear spray.
After that our teacher planted it.
Finally we watered it and put it in the sun

My Dad

The person I'm going to tell you about is my dad.
My dad has the hair of a clown.but it’s not red it’s
black it’s not tall its short it’s not curly oh wait yes
it is.His hair is too big but he doesn’t like haircuts
so it’s basically useless trying to cut it.

OK his eyes on the other hand are perfectly fine
theyre the colour of chocolate. And he can probably
see stuff from a mile away.

He is a solid build sometimes he looks like a gorilla.
He is probably taller than a baby giraffe he's like a
mini giant compared to me.

He always jokes around and be funny and he really is got at it.
He’s also good at Driving,Drawing,Drifting,Playing rugby, Playing
handball,Playing pool.Being a mechanic,Cooking and he can even
speak maori.something I don't get is that he wears jandals and
shorts whether its winter summer rain or shine.
He also wears this massive pounamu the size of a
patu he never takes it off and it looks really heavy
so I dont know how he handles it.
